Daryl Duke
Training Consultant
Daryl spent most of his life as a competitive athlete before starting to operate his own facility, the Panther Gym and Karate club, in 1983.
At one time he was the Canadian and Commonwealth professional kick-boxing champion at 160 pounds. He compiled a record of 15 victories and two defeats; including 10 knockouts before retiring to open the gym and concentrate on training.
He served as chief conditioner for the Edmonton Oilers for a decade, starting in 1995-96. He got particular pleasure from his involvement in the Oiler's run to the Stanley Cup final in 2006, when they forced the Carolina Hurricanes to seven games.
Since his departure from the NHL, the Oilers annually have lost more than twice as many man-games through injury than they suffered during his 11 year contribution (coincidence? you decide).
*Mike Tyson trained at the Panther Gym in 1989 while preparing for a world title bout with Donovan {Razor} Ruddock that never came to pass;
*Former Canadian champion Wille de Witt worked with Daryl for many of his 21 victories in a 23-bout career.
*Having followed his lifetime motto - "Train, Don't Strain" - an almost endless roster of athletes and well conditioned citizens speak willingly of the benefits they gained through working with Daryl.
The professional list includes Calgary Flames captain Jarome Iginla, Boston Bruins captain Zdeno Chara, long time Team Canada standout Ryan Smyth, former Vancouver Canuck Mats Lindgren, current Phoenix Coyotes standout Ray Whitney and countless former Oilers -- Mark Messier, Kevin Lowe, George Laraque, Dave Semenko and Louie De Brusk.
Prominent clients from the Edmonton Eskimos Football Club and Edmonton Drillers Soccer Club also lined up beside prominent triathletes and numerous weekend warriors to train and learn from Daryl Duke.
